Stuck? Ask.

How do I sign in?

With your email address. There is no password. We send you a link that opens DUB signed in; it works once and expires after 20 minutes.

If it has not arrived, check your spam folder. If it has expired, ask for a new one. You do not need an account to use DUB at all; signing in is what lets your progress move between phones.

I have a new phone, or my progress has gone. How do I get it back?

Until you sign in, everything you learn lives on that phone, in that browser. If you clear the browser's data or switch phones without having signed in, it cannot be recovered, because it was never linked to you.

If you have signed in before, open DUB on the new phone and sign in with the same email. Your progress comes back and merges with anything already on that phone. Pro is attached to your account, so it comes back with you too.

A code redeemed without signing in belongs to the device it was redeemed on. If you have lost access to something you paid for, email sambrownfield3@gmail.com from the address you paid with.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to your Account page, scroll to the bottom and tap “Close my account”. Then type your email address to confirm and tap CLOSE MY ACCOUNT.

If you pay for Pro, cancel it first with MANAGE BILLING on the same page. Closing your account does not cancel the subscription by itself.

Without an account, “Start again” (linked from the Account page) wipes this device's progress from our server. The privacy policy explains exactly what is deleted. Email sambrownfield3@gmail.com to have anything else removed.

Why does it want my microphone?

So you can say lines out loud and hear whether you were close. The microphone is only used when you tap to speak, and it closes after each try.

DUB does not record or store your voice. Your browser does the listening, and on some devices Apple or Google process it on their servers.

If you said no and want to change it, turn the microphone back on for DUB in your browser's site settings. On an iPhone using Safari, tap the “aA” button in the address bar, then Website Settings, then Microphone. You can also check your phone's Settings app under your browser.

If your browser cannot do speech recognition, the speak button does not appear and everything else works as normal.

Does it work offline?

Not reliably, yet. DUB needs a connection to open and to load lessons. The translator, the menu reader and saving your progress to your account all need the internet too. What you have already done is kept on your phone, so losing signal does not lose your progress.

Which variant of the language does it teach?

For Lisbon: European Portuguese, the one spoken in Portugal, and never Brazilian Portuguese. So it says estás rather than você está, telemóvel rather than celular and um café rather than um cafezinho.

How do I cancel Pro, or get a refund?

If you subscribed on the web, tap MANAGE BILLING on your Account page to cancel or to change your card. If you subscribed through Apple, manage it in your Apple account settings instead. For refunds, email sambrownfield3@gmail.com.

How do I stop notifications?

DUB sends a line every morning and a note when a drop opens, and only if you switched them on. To stop them, turn off notifications for DUB in your phone's Settings. On an iPhone, that is Settings, then Notifications, then DUB.
