TERMS

The rules, kept short.

Last updated 2 November 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Sam Brownfield, who runs DUB. By using DUB you agree to them. How we handle your data is covered separately, in the privacy policy.

Using DUB

DUB teaches you to speak a language for a real place. You can use it without an account, in which case your progress lives on your device. If you sign in, it is kept with your account.

You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, or be using DUB with the permission of a parent or guardian.

Your account

You sign in with a link sent to your email; there is no password. Anybody who can read your email can sign in as you, so keep your email account secure. You can close your account at any time from the Account page in the app. The privacy policy explains what happens when you do.

Free and Pro

DUB has a free tier, which includes:

  • a starter set of everyday situations
  • the survival kit of phrases
  • five vibes of your choice, which stay yours
  • a daily line
  • every live drop

Pro unlocks everything else. What each plan includes is shown in the app before you pay.

Buying Pro on the web. Pro is a subscription, paid monthly or yearly through Stripe. The price, in pounds or euros, is shown before you pay.

  • There is no free trial.
  • Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
  • You can cancel at any time from MANAGE BILLING on your Account page. Unless the billing page tells you otherwise, you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Closing your account does not cancel a subscription by itself, so cancel first.
  • If a payment fails, you keep access while Stripe retries the payment.

Launch offers, such as a founding membership, are described where they are sold, and those details form part of these terms.

Codes and invitations. Access codes, and the extra Pro time you earn when somebody you invited starts speaking, may be time-limited. They have no cash value and cannot be exchanged.

Refunds. If something has gone wrong with a payment, email sambrownfield3@gmail.com. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

If you got DUB from the App Store

If you downloaded DUB from Apple's App Store, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula) also applies. If it conflicts with these terms, Apple's agreement wins.

Any purchase made through Apple is billed, renewed, cancelled and refunded by Apple, under Apple's terms. You manage it in your Apple account settings, not in DUB.

Sam Brownfield, not Apple, is responsible for DUB and for supporting it.

Be decent

Please do not:

  • use DUB to harass anybody
  • try to get into other people's accounts or data
  • overload or attack the service
  • scrape or resell its content
  • work around the limits on the translator or on Pro

If you show somebody a card and they do not want it, they can block or report you. We may suspend access for anyone who breaks these rules.

Tables introduce people who want to practise together, at a time and a place named in the app. DUB does not run, book or supervise those places or meetings. Use the same judgement you would use when meeting anybody new.

What DUB can and cannot promise

  • The translator is written by AI and can be wrong.
  • Speech recognition is approximate: it may mishear you, and it is never a verdict on your pronunciation.
  • Event listings come from public sources and can change, so check with the venue.
  • Do not rely on DUB in an emergency. Call 112 (or your local emergency number).

We work to keep DUB running and accurate, but we provide it as it is and cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Content

The lessons, recordings, design and writing in DUB belong to us or the people who licensed them to us. Films, music and other works referred to in lessons belong to their owners and are referred to, not reproduced. You may use DUB for your own learning and share the cards it makes for you.

Changes, and the law

We may update these terms, and the date at the top will change when we do. Continuing to use DUB after a change means you accept it.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in the EU or elsewhere in the UK, you keep the protections of your local consumer law and can bring a claim where you live.
